Zika virus

After ordering Cash’s passport and contacting excursion companies we decided to cancel our Carnival Cruise.

Mosquito biting human

Its not like us to cancel a trip, especially one we had been prepping for and looking forward to for so long. But considering we recently found out my wife is finally pregnant (Check out our pregnancy announcement post here) we cancelled because we do not want to put our family at risk after hearing of the mosquito borne Zika virus and it’s horrible affects on pregnant mothers and their babies.

We had heard that many cruises and airlines were making exceptions to their refund policy due to the danger and extremity of the Zika Virus.

Thankfully we were refunded the tax money and received future cruise credit so we can enjoy the fun that Carnival Fun Ships have to offer after our baby is born safely.

If you are pregnant and plan on traveling you should keep an eye on the Zika Virus on the Center of Disease Control’s website.

If you plan to continue to travel despite the dangers please take the recommended precautions listed on the CDC website to protect yourself as best as you can. But do not be afraid to cancel.

To us the safety of our future child is worth postponing this trip for a later date.

Thanks for reading, What do you think about the Zika virus and traveling. Would you cancel given the circumstances? Please let us know by commenting below.

  1. I totally agree with your decision and would have done the same. I know we cannot protect ourselves and our children from everything (if only!) but I believe the risk here and the potential consequences are so severe it is important to do what we can to make them safe. Also, the holiday will be so much nicer all together. Oh and most of all : congratulations!!
