Kansas City, Missouri, United States of America is quite a happening place!
Most people probably think of the Major League Baseball Team the Kansas City Royals or the KC Chiefs from the NFL , but there is more to Kansas City than great baseball or football!
We had a weekend of excitement throughout our stay in Kansas City.
We started our trip on a Friday evening. It was around a 4 hour drive from our home to our hotel. Not too bad considering we have recently drove to Pennsylvania and along the coast of California this year each being over 17 hours of driving.
But on this “short” little drive we ran into some good o’l thunderstorms. Oklahoma and Kansas are known for their crazy weather. Well, we were barely in Kansas when we drove under one of the biggest storm clouds I have seen to date. I also saw some of the thickest lightning bolts I have ever seen. We had maybe an hour of, “CRAP, WHAT ARE WE DOING” with the downpour of rain and constant radio interruptions from the Emergency Weather Service telling us if we were in certain counties we should take shelter form the thunderstorms and high winds. We had no clue what county we were in but we continued on praying and hoping to outrun the storm and safely arrive in Kansas City.
After getting out of, God knows where Kansas, we crossed over to Missouri and before long were in a drizzly but beautiful Kansas City. We checked into the hotel and rested up for our first full day of exploring Kansas City.
We had done some research on hotels and decided to stay at the Motel 6 because of its low price (Baby Cale will be here in a month so we had to stay on a tight budget) and closeness to Worlds of Fun. It was only a few short minutes away.
The room was nice and clean, It looked newly refurnished, there were no bugs and it was extremely close to Worlds of Fun! What more could you ask for? This trip was one where we were rarely at the hotel because we only had the weekend to explore and had so much to see and do. We were only at the hotel to sleep!
Here is our Snapchat Story from our drive to Kansas City through the storm. I would have taken more footage of the storms and the road conditions but I was focused on safely driving my family to our destination and Kayla was busy praying for our lives.
Rides, Snoopy and Dinosaurs!
We arrived at Worlds of Fun excited to make new memories and experiences! Kayla had been to Worlds of Fun before but it was years ago and Cash and I had never been. We fell instantly in Love with the amusement park and all it held within its gates.

Animals, History, Toys and Miniatures!
Our second and final full day in Kansas City we went to the Kansas City Zoo and the National Museum of Toys and Miniatures.
I was extremely excited for this day because the Kansas City Zoo has a sky ride (The African Sky Safari) and many unique animals and exhibits that other zoos do not have and because none of us had ever visited the National Museum of Toys and Miniatures and were looking forward to seeing what it they had to show us!
We had an absolute blast at both the zoo and the museum and you can read more about each in our 5 Tips for Visiting the Kansas City Zoo and our article about the National Museum of Toys and Miniatures.
Please check out our Snapchat Story form our day at the Zoo and Museum of Toys and Miniatures and give us a SUBSCRIBE to keep up with our latest family adventures.
Glad you made it through the storm safely, looks like you and the family had fun!
Wow, you were off to a rough start with the storm but all turned out quite well! Sure looks like there are plenty of family-friendly things to do there. I admire the fact that you have a baby on the way but jumped in and created a budget weekend away for your family. Nice.
This is so much fun for kids, but adults enjoy it even better!!! Thanks for sharing! Beautiful presentation photo 😉
I’m a museum nut so I adore Kansas city, but I had no idea there was a museum of toys and miniatures. But now I want to go back and visit!
