We have all heard “are we there yet” repeated over and over during our road trips throughout life. We have made frequent restroom and food stops, we have plugged our children in to portable DVD players and video games all in order to have a great family vacation. Well have you ever considered driving overnight?
The majority of the Myers family road trips both with our son or on a romantic getaway we drive overnight some if not all of the trip. But we usually plan for some day driving as well so we do not miss things on the road.
Driving overnight can save a great amount of time. There is much less traffic if any at all, and your children should be peacefully sleeping the whole night. But when do you get to sleep? When we drive overnight we take turns sleeping and driving . It works great if you have two or more people. We usually split the trip evenly and if we ever get too tired to drive we pull over at a rest stop and take a nap.
So want to get some distance with less stops, less traffic and while your little ones sleep? Try driving overnight it’s worth it!
When our girls were little we always made long trips at night. They slept the whole way and either my husband or I would drive the first leg of the trip, while the other slept, then we’d switch places to finish the trip. It’s a great way to save time and let the kids still get a full night’s sleep. Glad I found your blog!
Glad to hear the hack has worked well for you guys in your traveling. It seems like many people are afraid to try night driving and end up dealing with traffic, irritable children and loss of time. Thanks for your comment!
