Santa Monica Pier has it all. Perfect Place for a family day at the beach!
If you follow Route 66 west you will eventually end up at Santa Monica Pier. The pier has been around for over 100 years and hasn’t always been a destination to visit.
The current Santa Monica Pier originated as a combination of two previously separate piers. The Municipal Pier which was built in 1909 and the Pleasure Pier also known as Newcomb Pier which was built in 1916. The Minicipal Pier was used for carrying sewer pipes and the Newcomb Pier was set up as a tourist attraction with an amusement park.
There is still an amusement park at the pier today, It is called Pacific Park and has plenty of awesome rides to enjoy.
We love visiting Santa Monica Pier. Cash absolutely loves going the beach, building sand castles and burying Daddy. Santa Monica is a perfect place for all of that. It is free to get in and fun even if you don’t have a full day to spend.
Parking at Santa Monica Pier is easy. There is a large parking area that has a fee but the prices are not too bad. It makes it easy and convenient to get to the beach, pier and shops without having your car far away
.
There are many shops and restaurants on the pier so be ready to get a souvenir or enjoy some delicious food with a view. I had a burger at Pier Burger home of the last burger on land. It was a good burger and worth a stop in for a bite. Every time I have visited, there had been some interesting musicians playing music on the pier and accepting donations. Our last visit there was a rock and roll Jesus playing a variety of rock music.
No matter if you have a day or a few hours, a stop at Santa Monica Pier is always a great time!
