What is Nelson’s Buffeteria?
Nelson’s Buffeteria is a mix between a buffet and a cafeteria.
You order, receive your food in line then take a seat and enjoy. It’s fast and efficient.
Nelson’s Buffeteria first opened in 1929 in Downtown, Tulsa.
Today it has since relocated to Memorial – but still in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
I first ate here in May of 2021. After leaving, I was immediately frustrated I hadn’t eaten here sooner.
The Environment of Nelson’s Buffeteria
The environment at Nelson’s Buffeteria surprised me.
I love the classic Neon Sign outside of the restaurant. It really takes you back to the good ol days.
Upon entering Nelson’s Buffeteria we were greeted by live music. They have a live band every Friday.
There was a constant line but the wait was not long. Our entire visit, many people came and left but the flow was quick and efficient.
The Food
Nelson’s Buffeteria is famous for their Chicken Fried Steak and Homestyle mashed potatoes.
They also have daily specials and homemade pies.
My coworkers had the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese.
I went for the Friday Blue Plate Special Salisbury Steak and I got mashed potatoes and fried okra for my sides.
They also offer giant rolls or cornbread. I opted for the roll which I really enjoyed.
The Service
The servers quickly provide the food you request and are fun to watch as they quickly prepare plates while keeping the kitchen up to date with orders coming out.
The wait staff was fast and helpful! Despite how busy it was, our waitress was quick with drink refills and anything we needed.
Kitchen staff also came by and quickly removed our empty plates and cleaned up our table.
