Visiting the Golden Gate Bridge had been on my bucket list as long as I could remember.
One of Americas most iconic landmarks is the Golden Gate Bridge. I remember seeing it in many films such as a few of the Terminator movies, Big Hero 6, Inside Out, Ant-Man and many of Robin Williams movies along with racing across it in many video games. I just had to see it!
The construction of the Golden Gate Bridge began in 1933 and it was quite a project. It cost more than 35 million dollars and was completed under budget. It opened in May of 1937.
I knew it was big but until driving across it I didn’t realize how long it was. It is 3 miles long and 1 mile wide. Driving across the bridge, there is a toll that supposedly charges 7.25 dollars per vehicle but at the time of this writing I have not yet received a bill in the mail and it has been over a month since we drove across.
The bridge connects San Francisco to Marin County and both sides have great views of this iconic piece of American history. From Marin County you can view the bridge straight on with San Francisco in the background. And from the San Francisco side you can see a gorgeous landscape of mountains and scenery.
Both views are great and on the San Francisco side you can go to the visitor center which is free to get in. It has informative displays, museum style exhibits and a gift shop.
Here is our Snapchat Story from our day in San Francisco.
Overall the Golden Gate Bridge is a great place to visit and there are many other things to see and do around San Fran.
Below is a map showing where the two main viewpoints of the bridge on both sides are.
Have you visited the Golden Gate Bridge? What did you think of it? Did it live up to the hype?
There’s a swing on the beach with looks directly at the Golden Gate bridge. Best place to see the bridge and listen to the foghorns.
Great family photo of you guys
