Our Dallas Skyline 5K Run
We ran the Skyline 5K Dallas, Texas!
Why the Skyline 5K?
We decided to do the Dallas Skyline 5K race because were invited to a surprise engagement between some of our friends in Fort Worth, Texas. Our friends decided to make it a weekend getaway full of adventure. (Stay tuned for more Dallas and Ft Worth articles!)
My friend Blake found out the Dallas Skyline 5k was happening the morning of the surprise engagement and our day was pretty open until that evening. The timing worked out great for us and we are glad we got to do the Skyline 5K on our Dallas/Fort Worth Adventure.
Our Experiences at the Race
Kayla and I got to the race early so we could get our packet pick up. Normally we like to pick up our packets in advance but we weren’t able to make those arrangements.
Getting to the race bright and early had 3 main advantages.
1. Parking
We got a great parking spot. There were many lots by the race area that were filling up quickly. We got there over an hour early and one of the lots was almost full already. Some of our friends arrived a little later but were still able to get OK parking spots.
2. Shorter Lines
Packet Pickup was much quicker being there so early. The lines got very long as the race got closer. We had plenty of time to put on our bibs, take advantage of the free bag check and scope out the area.
3. Sunrise Views
The views of the sunrise was beautiful there with the Dallas Skyline and the Continental Bridge.
What was the Skyline Race Course Like?
The course started off next to the Continental Bridge with an amazing view of the Dallas Skyline. It then goes down the Ronald Kirk pedestrian bridge and through part of downtown Dallas then loops back. I even got to run next to Spider-Man for a portion of the race! The exact location of the starting line and area can be found in a map below.
At the end of the bridge there is a hill which was brutal to come up at the end but worth it. (My legs hurt for a few days haha) I filmed the whole race with my GoPro Fusion so be sure to check out the videos that will be posted on my YouTube Channel soon!
How much did it cost?
It was 45 dollars to race but like most races prices increase as race day gets closer and for the price you get sweet swag and a portion of the proceeds goes to a charity.
What Charity Organization did the Skyline race use?
The Charity Partner was Bruce Wood Dance. It is a contemporary dance company located in Dallas.
What swag did we get?
What’s a 5K without the swag. For the cost of the race we got a finishers medal, a T-shirt, socks.
There were also many vendors handing out things. I love “free” stuff, so I checkout a few of the merch tables. State Farm gave us a fanny pack and a waist band bag, Kind was handing out a Kind Bars and there were other tables with merch and coupons.
Free Beer
There was a beer tent where every racer 21 and older had a choice of a beer or a sparkling water drink.
The Location
Where exactly was the Dallas Skyline Race and how do I get there? Though the race is now over it would still be a fun place to run and see some great Dallas Skyline views.
It is in Dallas, Texas. Check out the map below to see exactly where it is and how to get there.
What are the nearby Attractions?

I am a marathon runner who also does 5kms. For me 5km anywhere in the world is a 5km and will race them (as that’s what I am trained to do). So I dont really look at the views along the course. I did the Paris marathon recently and didnt see the Eiffel Tower! I was so in the zone! 😀 – but I havent done this 5km (or Dallas) but my favourite 5km is in Interlaken, Switzerland where I came 4th one year and 2nd the other against an Kenyan runner! Those were the days when I was fit and before I got fat!
That Continental Bridge must have looked amazing at the sunrise!
This sounds like a great getaway. Plus – you do some exercising. I mean, where else would you run right next to the Spider-man, right! 😀
Looking forward to your YouTube post, thanks. 🙂
Hahaha, I understand you ended up running the Skyline 5K because you were invited to an engagement party. Sounds like a lot of fun to get together with friends and do throw in some serious physical exercise in the mix. How did you have time to watch the Dallas Skyline when you were racing like crazy?
That’s a lot of fun thing to do while attending an engagement, you managed to run the skyline 5K. And wondering how you managed the time oh, that’s crazy oh, but really really fun. I would not mind running the 5K to get those free goodies and the free beer of course.
It’s amazing how much then Centennial Bridge reminds me of Tijuana. 5K is the such a fun distance. You can race in a costume and still enjoy the beer tent. Definitely seems like a fun event.
What a fun way to celebrate an engagement. Looks like an interesting race especially with the costumes and amazing views.
What a great way to see a city. Love that your swag bag come with socks. You can never have too many socks
I don’t run too much any more but it sure sounds like a fun morning activity. Great that you could fit it in before the engagement activities. I think hubby would have liked a beer at the end.
5K runs are always so much fun. I have always enjoyed them in my city. Funny I never tried it in other cities. Your post inspires me to try out some other locations – maybe plan for them. Glad to see you had a blast!
