What’s there to do in Oklahoma?
Take a cruise down Route 66 and get some sweet souvenirs at Buck Atoms Cosmic Curious In Tulsa, Oklahoma!
Many people say there is nothing to do in Oklahoma, but I’m here to tell you those people are mistaken. That’s why we started our “Whats there to do in Oklahoma” series. Oklahoma actually has places to see and things to do that you may have never heard about. Buck Atoms Cosmic Curious is one of those places.
What is the Buck Atoms Cosmic Curious?
Buck Atoms Cosmic Curious is one of a kind Route 66 gift shop with a giant roadside attraction (Buck Atoms himself). Its a place you must stop when cruising Route 66!
Our Experiences at Buck Atoms Cosmic Curious
I first heard about Buck Atoms Cosmic Curios on Facebook. There was a fundraiser for an installation of a large space cowboy to be put up in front of the shop.
Then I saw on a local news channel it was fully funded and installation was set for that day. I rushed down Route 66 to be there for the installation.
As the workers were prepping I explored the gift shop. I was impressed with the variety and uniqueness of the items for sale. But I had to get back outside to watch Buck as he landed in his new home along side the store.
Many news crews and spectators were there recording and taking photos, so I decided to do something a bit different. I took a time lapse of him being set, which you can see below.
Whats inside of Buck Atoms Cosmic Curious?
The gift shop is filled with a variety of Route 66 apparel, toys, souvenirs, home accessories, art, jewelry and much more.
Buck Atoms – The Space Cowboy
Buck Atoms was installed May 10th, 2019 with a celebration on May 11th, 2019. I was lucky enough to be there for the installation.
This muffler man (as they are called) stands 21 feet tall, and made from fiberglass. Muffler Men are fiberglass statues standing 14-25 feet in height. Buck is the first space cowboy because the others are lumberjacks, cowboys and American Indians.
Buck was built by Mark Cline of Enchanted Castle Studios and the Rocket Ship was built by Chris Wollard. He was installed by Joel Baker of American Giants.
Mary Beth Babcock
Mary is the one behind the store and the roadside attention. She had been dreaming of creating a roadside attraction for nearly a decade and is extremely thankful for the community and city of Tulsa for making this happen. You may see her there on your next visit.
