What’s there to do in Oklahoma? Head to The Pear District near Downtown Tulsa and throw some axes at Angry Axe!
Many people say there is nothing to do in Oklahoma, but I’m here to tell you those people are mistaken. That’s why we started our “Whats there to do in Oklahoma” series. Oklahoma actually has places to see and things to do that you may have never heard about. Angry Axe is one of those places.
Family Travel Go – Goes Axe Throwing
What is Angry Axe?
Angry Axe is Tulsa’s first urban axe throwing venue. Axe throwing is like darts but more fun because you get to throw axes. It is a safe, casual, indoor facility to throw axes, and it’s a ton of fun.
Our experiences at Angry Axe
We went to Angry Axe with some friends after dining at Mother Road Market. (Article about Mother Road Market is coming soon)
It was a random spur of the moment idea that we all really enjoyed.
None of us had been there so we put in in our GPS and were a bit concerned when we arrived. It was dark and we didn’t see a sign on or around the fenced lot we pulled into.
We did however see the Angry Axe Logo on the building so we decided to go on inside.
We were greeted by an axe throwing coach who had us sign some waivers and get us set up. He was friendly and showed us to our lane and the proper way to throw axes.
We lucked out they weren’t fully booked. They allow walk-ins but you can always schedule in advance on their website to ensure you have a lane.
After learning the proper way to throw an axe we gave it a try. It was exciting to say the least. We had two small axes and one large axe. We were told to use two hands with the larger axe.
After a few throws we got it figured out and were able to make the axe stick more often and aim decently.
We decided to play some of the games instead of just throwing the axes.
Activities within Angry Axe
Once we were ready we informed the coach we’d like to try some of the games. He brought over a dry erase board with Tic tac toe, 21 and Around the world Pre set up.
He explained how to play and we were off. It was fun to add a bit of competition to our evening of axe throwing.

That sounds like fun, although I wouldn’t want to be drinking before hand….what a different and cool thing to do with friends.
I am not able to handle a small knife well, much less an axe. Your ladies are brave! But I think my husband would love this as well as the other men in the family! Thanks for the tip.
Going to ask…did you feel that a lot of stress was released after doing the axe throwing? 😀 I would love to try this out and see how good I am,,,probably useless as I never thrown a aex before.
I would never have thought that axe throwing would be a thing. I am sure the waiver had all kinds of disclaimers on it. I am quite wild with darts. So not sure if anyone would want to throw axes with me! I am sure this was a really wild experience!
I want to do this so bad! Since the first time I saw people doing it and writing about it I said to myself I want to do that! I mean when in real life would I have the opportunity to throw an axe?!!
What will they think of next!?! Knowing my luck, it would bounce back and hit me LOL! It’s good to know that Angry Axe allows outside food and drink to be consumed – that probably saves on cost.
I have never heard of the Angry Axe before. It seems so much fun, and I a stress and anger relief too. Cool game!
This looks like an amazing and unique experience. Going with friends and playing games is actually a good idea. And you can carry your own stuff too, sounds like a bonus. I too liked the decor of this place.
Amazing – I thought darts were a wild thing at bars – no axes. Is it a good combination with booze? Kidding aside: Sounds like great fun!
Axe throwing is definitely a unique activity, are the axes heavy? Love the décor and the boards. The game seems like a fun way to use your time
